Blog: Netmob Conference 2024
Another iteration of the Netmob Conference was held in Washington, D.C. on Oct 7-8, 2024 hosted by the World Bank, bringing together researchers from complexity science and computer science to share advances in the field of mobility analytics and network science. The conference was again accompanied by a data challenge that this time provided access to mobility data from India, Indonesia, Colombia and Mexico for the years 2019 and 2020 (here link to the data description paper). I2SC, represented at the conference by postdoctoral researcher Till Koebe, presented joint work with PhD candidate Brahmani Nutakki titled „Rally Attendance, Political Discourse and Ideological Position“. Here, we investigate the link between offline attendance of political rallies measured through the mobility data with online popularity measured via Instagram like of the respective politicians in India and Indonesia in the run-up to the 2019 elections in those two countries.
